We have a chain link fence around the house for the dogs, but I put Rascal to work helping keep it mowed down as well:) When we figure out what is wrong with the electric fence I am buying a solar unit for temporary fencing so he has our front yard to graze when we are in the yard with him, like on weekends and such.

Don't forget insurance, it's VERY important.

You'll want to insure the contents of the house, your horses and your tack and equipment. In case of theft or fire, it is going to come in handy.

Then you'll want to insure the property against someone coming in there and getting hurt in some way. I carry extra insurance because I have horses. I'm not a boarding or training facility either.

These are the expenses I can think of just now.

Fencing - all fencing needs regular maintenance
Yard Grooming Equipment - for manure removal, landscaping, managing weeds, dealing with water erosion, moving hay, etc.
Water - troughs / waterers need maintenance and replacement from time to time, also water supply to keep dusty areas watered down, etc is an expense.
Insurance - of course!
Pest Control - don't know if you have destructive pack-rats in your area, or any nasty insects, but they may need to be managed.
Shelters - horses tend to eat them or rub on them!
