    Alternatives to sand in paddock?

Hi, I am new to the forum. I am in the process of setting up a small paddock and am having trouble figuring out the best way to handle the large amount of rocks on the ground. I have raked up many of them but more just keep coming up. Everyone around me uses sand for their horses but I worry about sand colic. I have thought about hauling dirt in but I'm not sure if that is the best thing. I've tried to research but I can't find anything that says it would be good for covering rocks. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any advice!

Throw several rock clearing parties during the year. I lived in an area that if rocks were an export crop, I'd have been a millionaire several times over. We picked rocks daily at first, then weekly and finally it got to mostly monthly with the stipulation that whoever saw a large rock would bend over and pick it up pronto. The rocks will work to the top of the soil over time, and usually it will work out to where there aren't so many as in the beginning. If you were doing an arena I'd say sand, sand and more sand on top to soften the footing, but not in a paddock where you might feed off the ground.

Crushed limestone and then some dirt? Pea gravel? Where you are located might give some insight as soil is so different in other parts of the country
