Walkamile, I am totally with you. I just know from experience that sometimes people over react a bit..... which is better than not at all, but people can tend to get very sensitive. Knee deep is disgusting, but I do think the OP was a bit upset when it was written so not 100% that is accurate, but if so gross!!!

I put out fliers a few years ago looking to get work at local barns for a little pay and to be able to ride. I went to work for one lady who had a boarding barn. She had almost no pasture. She had lost her regular help and was injured herself. I spent 10 hours cleaning about 7 stalls they were so awful, I could barely stand the stench... she only turned the horses out while the stalls were being cleaned because of her lack of pasture. It was so awful... so if it was like that I can see where she is coming from, but unfortunately I didn't think calling the authorities would help much. All the horses had water, hay and were not thin and had owners who could protest if they liked, so I just decided not to work for her again. It was the hardest $100 I ever made. She then asked me to start riding her horses and I said no thanks.

Its such a shame that people are so dumb, it was funny with that teen ager, she just sort of disppeared after I told her she wouldn't last long at our barn saying things like that. Everyone at our barn is super into their horses and we all look out for each other, etc. No horse is ever in a bad situation, we are overly careful, so for someone to say that was really upsetting to me. I shovel in new dirt, use lime and pine pellets so trust me it wasnt' that bad. :)

Yes they are expensive about to purchase a fly sheet and boots even though I know she won't keep them on.
But I have to try the flies are terrible right now

Calling the authorities I think was excessive and whoever mentioned about getting a bad reputation, that is a big reality. BO's talk. You have to be really careful about making allegations of neglect.

The horses stalls sounded like they weren't clean but other than that, they had water, they had hay. If it is self/partial care facility it isn't the BO's job to clean the stalls. If it were me, I'd clean them and then remove the boarders for not keeping them clean.
