Hi, I am planning on taking my two horses up north with me for a weekend. I was thinking of using a fiberglass step in rod with hot wire. It would be for 1 acre of grass. What would the desired space be in between rods and how many strands of wire? What would the feet be for the wire? Thanks!
How well do your horses respect electric fencing? When we go camping, we can just use one wire for our horses. If you aren't sure if they won't test the fence or won't go under the one wire, use at least 2 strands.
So for each strand going around, you'll need about 840 ft. The maximum spacing of the posts should be 8 ft. To fence in an acre, you would need at least 105 posts.
Since that seems a lot of wire and posts to bring along, why not set up a smaller pen and just move it around every so often? That's what we do. When they've mowed down what's in the pen, move it over. You can leave one side up and set up the other 3. Posted via Mobile Device
Thanks for the advice! I had a momentary lack of math skills and was able to figure it out! lol going to do a roughly 80'x80' pen. I dont think they will test it but it will keep the nosey dogs out with two strands. Thanks for your help!
The only time they've splintered for us was when they were accidentally run over. After several uses and trying to put them in hard ground, some of the foot pegs break. Posted via Mobile Device
if you have a few good trees you can use a lot fewer posts since you can put more tension in. otherwise just as much space as needed to keep the fence at the desired height
