Introducing new horses

My work partner and I are fencing an 8 acre pasture at our workplace and intend on moving our horses there since unfortunatly we are there more than home plus the convienience of meeting the vet, farrier , etc. He has two Arab mares. One 22 yo, one 17 yo. I have a 10 yo QH gelding and a 5 yo paint mare. My gelding has been with my paint since birth and has been alone with her for four years. We did have another horse visit for a few days and my QH went ballistic anytime the horse came near my paint mare. Should I split the pasture for a couple weeks and let them aquaint themselves across the fence ? I would appreciate any input from some of you more knowledgable horse folks . Thanks....J

Why not just keep the pastures separate? Is shelter an issue?
