Hello, I am a new horse owner (OTTB) and boarder, glad I found your forum because it helps me understand what to expect. I moved to a new stable last week, a day before the managers were leaving for a 2 week vacation. They asked for the rent check then, and said we would sign paperwork when they get back. I was surprised when they told me that if I did not do my own turnout I would be charged an extra fee in addition to monthly board. Her comment was, "Because we don't draw a wage per se from turning out horses, and we would have to keep driving back across town to turn out horses, we will start to charge a turnout fee." Is it normal to charge boarders for turnout? I would like to know before I sign the documents next week. I work full-time and would find it difficult to arrange turn out (2 hour maximum per their rules) with other boarders. It is a better stable than our last one (my horse wasn't fed, and was beaten by the horse trainer)(I filed an animal cruelty complaint with the sheriff and left the barn that day), but I still want to be treated fairly, instead of saying yes to something that I shouldn't, just because I am grateful not to be at the other barn. Thanks in advance for your feedback. BTW, if I posted this in the wrong forum, please let me know. Thanks.
