$800 could get a nice used barrel saddle.

www.tacktrader.com

I've heard goo things about the Martha Josey saddles. I'd stay away from Alama and Dakota. They're a little lower quality... ok for starting but arent made very nice. I, personally, wouldnt buy something for over $500 that isnt going to last or that is going to sore up my horse's back.

Or you can try
www.barrelhorseworld.com and go to the classified tack section.

TexTan makes a good saddle. I can't believe the price on that one... No reason not to find a good used one if you keep your eyes open. Barrel Racing at Barrel Horse World, Barrel Horses for Sale, Barrel Racing Forums, Equine Health Articles, Western Tack, and more should find quality and price. There are a couple of barrel racing tack swap sites on facebook. I actually found my daughter's Double J Lynn McKenzie Special for $500. Of course, that is not the norm and they usually sell for over $1000 but there are deals out there to be had if you watch.

With your budget you could get a far nicer used one than a cheap new one.

But would Tex Tan be considered a cheap saddle?
I'm going to need a 16" and I can buy one in that saddle.
I have the feeling I'll be on a wild goose chase to find one if I look for a used one! Haha.

Have you sat in a 16" barrel saddle? They tend to sit differently and most everyone I know rides a smaller seat than they do in a pleasure saddle.

I've been riding in a 15 and it is WAY too small for me. I'm not a massive person, I just have bigger legs and back-end. I've been advised to look for one and I want one where I can move in the saddle. I don't wanna be cramped.

The tex tans I've seen weren't that nice. I'd go for a used billy cook or circle y.

Build Your Own Barrel Racer Saddle

KO Trading..My sister and I both had saddles custom made by them..the saddles are great and break in quick..they will custom any barrel saddle for you..it's $800 but you pick everything..conchos, seat, basket weave, horn, high or low back, stirrup size and make...it's an awesome saddle that you don't have to pay a ton for.

I would be afraid to buy a saddle that was custom made for only $799. What is the quality of the leather and tree they are using if their time is only worth as little as this?
