Ok, I just read your post again. She's 5 years old, definitely do the poll pressure practice! Also, she's shaking her head violently because she's 5. :) she's young, spunky, glad to be loping and burning energy. My 5 y/o gelding does the same thing. Of course it's not an acceptable behavior under saddle, so every time he tosses his head around, he gets to do about two or three tight circles, them we go straight again. Every time he repeats that behavior, more little circles.

I can see how the poll practice would help (thanks very much for that!)...but Sassy was taught to put her head down as soon as you lay your hand ontop of her head:P
