am i to old to start barrel racing

Ok well I was talking to a friend today he said I was to old to start barrels.im 27. I have been riding for 17 years im a ok rider not the best not the worst. Lol I have 4 horses. 2 are younger and I was thinking about starting them in barrels. One is my 5 year old paint mare that is not the biggest or the fastest but can turn on a dime nice and tight. I think she has some speed in her just never asked her to full out run for me. The next is my 6 year old dash for cash mare (QH) that's a little high strong but fast fast fast. She's 15.2 nice hide end but narrow in the chest. I have never trained her fully I wanted to do some ring work with her but hubby ended up haveing cancer and never put the time in her like I wanted. I would get a trainer for both of us. So that's not the prob. My ?? Is am I to old and what horse would you train first or try to use first. I attached a pic with both them together they don't look that great in pics this was after a 2 day trailer ride from NH to TX lol

No! You are not to old to start..I don't think anyone could ever be too old to start, I know I won't stop until I am just physically unable to run barrels anymore..It will just take time and practice. You can do it! 27 is not old..I say go for it!!

Thank you that gives me hope. Im want to see what horse to use for it did my pic show up I know they look dirty but they just got off the trailer a 2 day trailer ride hahah

Since you are just starting I wouldn't go with a really high strung horse. I can't really tell conformation wise from the picture..I would probably go with whoever is more laid back (for now), you can always move up to a high strung horse. My mare is and she can be a handful for me sometimes and I've been doing running for years. It can also get pretty annoying if they get really hot..but, If you are wanting to start the high strung horse and you are comfortable with her being hot then I would think that would be okay too as long as you take it SLOW and have a nice trainer working with you..In my experience with hot horses (all of mine have been) the more you push them and train them the hotter they get..

Ya I was thinking my paint may be better she's more willing to do any thing I ask her. I can ride her on roads and woods throw rivers and lakes and she never bats a eye lash I can put a trap on her and all kinds of crazy things and she's just don't care. After I trained her maybe 2 rides in I was riding down the road with her. She's just that good. Don't get me wrong she can be a handful but I put alot of time in her I got her a 9 months old from a not so great place. Her mom died when she was only 3 weeks old. I started bye just bring her for walks down the road and in trails and I put a round bale on a trap in that field. So she was never scared of any thing. Thank you so much for all your help guys. After being told I was to old to start barrels and that yankees shouldnt be doing barrels I need a little help with the pride hahah. The yankee thing was a joke I think for the same friend hahah

Well since you're not the one who's actually going to be running the barrels, i'd say go for it! If it was the horse that was 27 then i'd say no ha ha but who's to say there's an age limit for barrel racing? Hunk of bull of you ask me.
You might wanna take it slow & get some practice, maybe join a local gymkhana and enter a few local rodeos for experience but most barrel racers I see are much older than you ;)
