Any thoughts?

I use an over and under and sometimes a flat leather bat in barrels. I don't use them all the time but when I do it's only to wake the horse up or to get a lazy horse going. Does anyone use them or what do you think bout them

I think as long as your not hitting a horse in the face or neck with it, its fine. I used an over and under with my retired barrel horse and I'd only hit him in the butt. With my current horse I use a crop but I dont hit him instead I hit my boot with it, it makes a loud noise and encourages him to go faster. But I usually use nothing and just kick with an occasional slap on the neck, not even a hard one. But my horse is a running machine I think over unders are good for the lazy horses.

ok well I usually use on if those crops for my horses that have alley problems I just smack them in the butt a few times and they'll leave the alley just fine....I would slap with my hand but in my highschool associationwe can't touch the horse in front of the girth.

Its the same thing in gymkhanas no hitting infront of the girth. Only allowed at actual barrel races and a considerate amount of rodeos.

I know at some rodeos down by me I can use a crop or overunder....it's just against their specific rules
