There are no "tricks" to train a barrel horse.

Folks have spent their entire lives tryiing to perfect and document how they train a barrel horse. It can't be explained in one internet post.

First of all, you should check out the sticky we have on this thread
Barrel Racing Exercises and Drills.

If you have further questions after reading that, feel free to ask.

Are you starting from ground zero or does your horse have some training? Either way, I'd start with basic training....dressage! It works the whole horse to where you can take him/her in any direction you want to go. My trainer teaches dressage to a local girl that runs barrels and the horse is one fast pony and very responsive.

He used to be a rodeo horse, he'd run about everything. But okay!
