So I'm back everyone!! Here's the thread and run down as promised!
Took a nine hour drive up, stopping every couple hours and let the horses drink and have a stretch. We were the VERY first ones to arrive. The crew was there setting up, as well as the directors, who we got in good with early on! They were SO incredible and helped us set up camp, turned on the arena lights for us, helped us set up the stalls, and opened the showers for us. They let us have full run of the facility, and we rode bareback in the indoor arena there, and ran poles bareback in our halters! So much fun on good horses.
The day of time onlys was the BEST! I was so worried my horse wouldn't handle the run, but I got one to find out. All the directors already knew us and hooked us up with great slots! Selena ran in a tiedown for the first time and it really helped her out. It's on neutral, actually a little loose, but she only hits it on the turns when she needs to power out. She really hauled butt! She wasn't even breathing hard at the end of our first run. She did however act super confused and got the wrong lead for the first time in her life.
We went shopping at the amazing Hamley's saddle shop and went to get the famous Pendleton wool blankets. Then went to a normal tack shop and got Selena a present, new bell boots that match her love of pink :)
We came back and decided to run again. I bought two more time onlys, loped her slow and schooled her one then decided to switch to running to the left barrel first. She had a SMOKIN' run when I took her to the left! It was BEAUTIFUL, everyone started cheering and yelling for the "little one"! We outran a lot of the bigger horses but here's the really sucky thing...That is the ONE thing we didn't get on video!! **** it!
Of course though, our worst run was the one that actually counted. All my fault. I let her go too much to the first and she got by it quite a bit. Didn't rate her soon enough and got frazzled. She stalled out of the second because I didn't give her enough of my leg. But you know what, she still beat some of the bigger horses and I am SO proud that she wasn't even breathing hard after I ran her.
We got free tickets to the PBR (From the crew and directors who loved us so much) and had a WONDERFUL time watching fireworks from our tent! Rode bareback a lot and got snuck onto the track so we could breeze our horses out there, also courtesy of the race directors! As well as a free bottle of Pendleton Whiskey. Needless to say, be nice to people, don't be a horse show snob, and you will get benefits! They took our pictures in our dress attire and we are now proud members of the "hall of fame" they have in the director's office. I loved them to death and promised to come back next year!
On the way back, we got the horses out and Selena and I raced our trailer mates on the flat by our arena. She smoked 'em :) Lydia says it's because I'm "young and fearless". Yeah yeah, whatever, she just doesn't wanna say she got beat by a pony...LOL!
Okay okay, enough blabbing Michaela! Here's some pictures, and the videos are going to be emailed to me tonight :) No pro pictures though, the photographers sucked, all my pictures were bad. Nothing bad like a way wide barrel, just taken at awkward times when she was running instead of in full action. Nothing worth paying their outrageous prices for...
On the road!
PBR Celebrating the 4th of july!
Our lovely friend Amanda came along not to run but to help, and she made us yummy chicken! Oh and yeah that's her butt lol
Lydia with the horses after they got turned out (Selena's short LOL)
Heather patched up and massaged Selena after the time onlys. I HIGHLY reccomend AcuLife patches, these brought out the sore on her back and the ones in this pictures REALLY made her get some air to her lungs!
Getting ready to run.
Finally, this is me and Lydia (Who is temporarily holding Heather's horse) preparing to breeze bareback, in halters, on the Pendleton track!
Finally, taking a break from our long trip to loosen up at a truck stop.
This was the funnest trip I ever could of asked for. I'm sure I can find more pictures somewhere too. All four of us who hauled together had a BLAST, tons of fun times, running around, being stupid in general and loving every minute. The crew was amazing, the course was amazing. All you can hear is wind running out there. It's not as scary as everyone makes it out to be, it's just a RUSH!
I will have the videos posted here as soon as they are uploaded from Lydia's ipad!
