How far do the Barrels have to be separated?

It usually depends on the size of the arena. In AQHA and some other associations there is a set pattern, in NBHA and IBRA there's just certain rules about the barrels being so far from the fence and what not. But in thos two your normally running a different pattern at each place. At Open shows, theres no rules.

The standard WPRA pattern is as follows:






However, this is a pretty LARGE pattern. Most arenas are not big enough to house a standard pattern. The world record on a pattern of that size used to be a 16.653, but I am pretty sure that has now been beaten.

So pattern size will depend on the arena size. So you often can NOT compare times between barrel races at different places because the arena size is different.
