    Question Barrel Racing help

Hi, I've had this bay gelding that is around 13 years old and I've been doing barrel work with him for a few years now and I started adding speed to him (loping) and whenever he lopes around the first barrel he prances around it, like when I sit to turn the barrel the back of the saddle comes and smack my rear like he prances around the barrel and makes the saddle do this. It drives me crazy. Any suggestions?

I'm going to suggest checking his saddle fit, as it should not flip up in the back.
I'd also take a look at his turns, because he may be doing something incorrectly (that needs fixed before continueing on barrels) that may be causing the "prancing" feeling.

    Do you have a video?

Yes, get the saddle fitted. A proper fitting saddle should not do that. An improper fitting saddle could be the reason why he prances around the barrel too. It hurts. Its painful. He may be trying to aleve the pain.

And yes, a video would be best so we can see what is going on.
