say you're running to the first barrel- don't try to get in and hug the barrel swing it wide like you're trying to turn a big truck in a tight drive way but don't try to get up really close- keep some distance from your leg and the barrel and shell find the 'pocket' and slide around real nice.
I know most barrel racers will give a constant pull on the rein but it works better for me when I pull release pull release pull release pull release around the barrels.
