Arrow Calling all people with barrel saddles!

Im looking to buy a new barrel saddle this coming spring. I would LOVE to see pictures of your own personal barrel saddles, what you like about them, don't, and what brand! Do you prefer a lower seat, a higher one? Aluminum sturrips vs normal. Rawhide horn or regular?? I am also looking for one that is comfortable for a couple hour ride :) is there something I have to look for in a saddle when I want that??
Thanks in advance!

Also do you prefer swede seats or slick, and a bigger size saddle or a snugger one??

Already a current thread running: saddles ? lets see em'
Look first and foremost for a saddle that fits your horse. Everything else is negotiable.

I ride in a Hereford. LOVE it. Much better than most of the newer "Trendy" models, lasts forever, COMFORTABLE, and seats you wonderfully. If a horse is going to buck or be silly, I want to be in that saddle and none other. I give all the first rides in that saddle because I trust it.

I don't ride in aluminum stirrups just because I've never had them on my saddle. I can't honestly give an opinion on that.

Everything else, just depends on the feel.

Pssh.I didn't pick up the wrong lead
It's called a counter canter...
...A very advanced maneuver.

I am not much of a barrel racer but I rode a few and I liked the Ammerman and the Dale Martin.

I loved the Ammerman. It had a suede seat with the ostrich in the front by the swells. It had a deep seat and a lot of dish to the cantle. I could really sit down in it, especially with this roan horse who has a lot of power and will run past a barrel if you don't sit down to help him rate. The horn was perfect for me because of the height-I could really push against it. It had the leather stirrups which would be the only thing I would of changed. I like a stirrup with some weight.(Thats why I was using the rubber bands) But that is a personal choice. I have ridden in a Dale Martin too and I really liked it as well. They come with many options.

Sorry about the sideways pic...I can't fix it..it is stuck in my computer that way

Look at the fit for your horse foremost.

I prefer a saddle with a 5 in. Cantle.....helps me stay in place on my fast hard turner.

I've heard ostrich is slick....stingray I've heard is slick and I've heard it's not but I do know it's rather tough on your jeans. Alligator offers a nice grip but same thing....wears your jeans.

I'm not sure that mine's a barrel saddle, but it's what I barrel race in, and it fits my horse and me well. I'll have to check on the brand for you as it's an older one.
