Critique me on poles please!

Okay so here is a video of me and Rosie at a show a few weekends back..

Critique, give me some tips, tear me apart, but be gentle!:P


Rosie hadn't done the pattern at all other than walking and trotting it since October. She has been having issues with keeping up speed through them, and her one end pole closest to the gate is always super sloppy. I do my best to just slightly guide her with my hands through the poles, but she has gotten into the habit of randomly missing a pole and I get a tad nervous here and there:P
And YES, Rosie DOES know how to do poles. She just needs some tune ups:)

And from the looks of it, I didn't drop to one hand like I normally do on that end pole..so that could be it too:P

Critique me on poles please!

When I read the topic I immediately clicked on it but remembered this is a horse forum!!! Lol.

Seriouly though I know nothing about the pole stuff but to me it looks like your not pushing the horse to go faster. You look a little unsure. One thing I do know is that a horse feeds off what you are doing so I would say the horse was unsure too.

Not THAT kind of poles!!! XD

We definitely need to practice more, I get really stiff in the pattern:P

When you're about to turn on the first pole, push your horse out a little bit more with your leg to set her up. That way she won't get confused and try to duck in too early. As for in between poles, it looks good, keep using your legs!
For the end pole, push her out a little bit more and sit and turn.
As for the very last pole, it looks good.

I think your horse could go a bit faster, but until you get used to the pattern, go at the speed you are comfortable. Slowly make your way up there. :)

She is 21 but is still keeping up pretty good. I do poles a lot but you would never guess, I just don't get I'm the practice ring enough hehe:P

Looked pretty good to me for a horse that hadn't seen the pattern with speed in months..Like Bubbles posted, just keep her moving when running in so she won't duck like the did when setting up for her first turn. Weaving looks pretty good, just use your legs more and dance with her..Other than that it just takes work..Of course you know that so I don't even need to start with telling you what to do. Lol I'm pretty confident you know your stuff.
