Ducking the first barrel

Hey I was just wondering if anyone would help me please. My horse's name is Rocky and he is 16 years old. We have barrel raced together for about seven years now and recently he started ducking the barrel. He did this last year for awhile then quit the habit. He is fine after I get him around the first and even if he ducks it has the go to finish out the pattern. I try to pull his head around, but he is just too strong for me. If anyone has tips or ideas to help me that would be great I have a rodeo coming up this weekend and would love to fix before than :)

How often do you practice barrels? Every ride? Or just once in awhile? Usually ducking comes from either pain of souring. Meaning he gets bored of doing the barrels so much. But if not, he's 16 years old get his teeth and back checked.

Same questions as above but also : What speed are you practicing the pattern at?
