    Help..

Ok, so Pastick turns barrels like no other at home. But at a show he turns good going into the pocket, then coming around the barrel he just takes it wide. And if he knocks one it ALWAYS the second. We have never knocked the first, and a few times we knocked the last. But at shows it would always be the second.

I Need advice on how to improve Pasticks turns? We go full speed to each barrel. Should I slow down before I get to the barrel?

I woudl say maybe start doing check and release before the barrel maybe going wider on your pocket.. just an idea .. my thoroughbred mare had a amazing turn for her size but no matter what yuo did the brat found a way to knock the last barrel down one time she actually bucked just to hit it -_-

Ch yes it was except when you are runnin to your last barrel and she decideds to slam full force into the barrel before you even have a chance to react in any way..she threw me up over her shoulder one time that happened I was doin a rodeo stunt on her neck half way down the arena then let go and she stoppped right before she crunched my foot.. gotta love her even though she had the attitude from hell sometimes lol

Do you run harder at shows then in practice? My mare does something similar except she just blows past them at shows. I have to check her with both reins going into the barrels, like a half hault to get her to slow down to turn. Maybe you should keep checking him with your inside rein?

Along with the advice mentioned above, maybe you should try practicing in one of the arenas you show in if you have access to it. With my horse I sit, yell "hey!", and bump back on the reins a hair once I'm AT the barrel, and then turn the barrel once I'm past it a little bit.

Maybe make your pocket bigger coming into the second barrel so he can make the turn. And a few strides before the barrel, really sit deep and pull him in a little so he will rate better.
