Question Help please

Scooter was running barrels like a dream and now he refuses to go. I tried spurs that made him slow down! He is soo stubborn. Any suggestions?

My guess is, he is burnt out.

Need more information.

How old is Scooter? How long has he been running barrels? How much training was put on him? What else do you do besides running the pattern?

Exactly what ClaPorte said.. We need more back story on your situation to give you any good advice.. Anything given now could either be spot on or dead wrong. It sounds like he's burnt out on the pattern and you are only making it worse with spurs and trying to force him on the pattern.

Do you have any videos of him refusing?

He will be 8 in february. I started him last spring and he was doing great. He runs to the first barrel and he runs home from the third but when he's headed for the second barrel he trots. I have no videos but I'm sure I can post some when I fix my camera. He also runs poles but he does amazing on them. We got rid of the spurs after day one.

I'm just going to wait for a video, I don't want to give you advice and it be wrong.

Until we see a video, in the meantime, you want to check and make sure he isn't having some sort of pain issue.

When is the last time Scooter saw an equine dentist, if ever?

Has he ever been checked by the chiropractor?

When is the last time he had a complete health evaluation with a vet?

Are you sure your saddle and tack fits well?
