    ItzKayley,
What does he do when you ask for a canter? What is his response?
Does he canter when you lounge him? If you don't lounge him i'd work on voice commands while you are safely on the ground. That established the language your horse and you communicate with. Make sure that he understands what you are asking for by voice. That's the way I break new horses and I rarely if ever get thrown and if I do get thrown I know that I didn't do the ground work like I should have I rushed the horse.... but that's me. I'm an OLDEr GAL AND I HATE BEING BUCKED OFF HORSES :) my guys are all pretty good size too LOL

I am attempting to train two horses on barrels as well and they both have the fire, but don't understand that the point is to go fast. Other than working on using their hind quarters more, what can I do if they refuse to gallop even with gentle encouragement from spurs or a riding whip? They will gallop on the trail, but I am training in a circle arena, could that be it? They cut the barrels fine, but with these two animals I don't have a ton of space due to owners arrangements. Help!?

P.S. Conditioning is just fitness. If a horse gets tired after two laps of trotting, he is certainly not going to be able to run a barrels course easily.

    Iseul is soooo right!

Horses are like puzzel pieces you can not force them to go where they do not belong, you can not make them fit, you can not change them, and you can not pretend they are what they aren't.
Some horses are born to run and take to barrels like they know it already and some take time and more time and more time while others just are not meant to be know matter how much you want it or how much they seem like they should be.
