I found these on another forum; didn't read them all but I think they'll help you understand a bit more, and give you ideas on what to do. Plus it has others comments also. :)

Oh sorry. *runs into my hole* I searched barrel training threads and they popped up. LOL. Like I said I only read a few of them, and just figured they were all good.

You can just skip over my above post like it wasn't even there.

Lol no you're fine!

There's alot of good info too. It's just hard for a novice to read good advice then apply it properly. Hence why a trainer is always a good idea.

Haha If you say so. :p
I agree with you 100%; my first year of barrels was a little rocky (luckily I had a good horse ) because I didn't know what I was doing and had no trainer. After getting some advice from the girls that have been doing it forever and practicing at home a lot, I have been able to *somewhat* get my Arabian/Appaloosa to do barrels (sometimes scaring the girls that have been doing it because we're almost beating them!). I'm also going to be getting lessons here and there from a girl that has competed at National levels. Her name has escaped me, but I hear she's a great teacher.

Trainers *most of the time* can only do good.
