I Want to See Barrel Ponies/Short Horses!

I rode a barrel POA this year and am thinking about buying a barrel pony so I want to hear about your short barrel horses/ponies. How tall and what are there times?

Also, I've seen a thread like this a while back but couldn't find it again.

I had gelding who we recently sold that was maybe 14.2 that LOVED the poles! I had started him when I started him on the barrels but never finished him on the poles. So I was doing that this year and he was running 25s and wasn't finished on the poles and was just cruising. I predicted when finished he would have been a 20-21s pole horse.

On barrels he was running 18s, he just didn't have the heart to do the barrels and it was a fight constantly because he didn't like them. So I put the barrels behind us and worked on the poles which he loved.

Here is a video of me working him on the poles this summer, his momma was a cutting bred mare and his daddy was all cow bred so he was pretty catty lol!

And our friends daughters pony I occasionally tune on! He is 12-12.1 hh and WICKED we haven't really clocked him on the poles but he is going to be one of those WICKED fast ponies that you see these Jr. Rodeo kids mounted on that run 19-20 second times on.

I love watching small horses kick some serious booty in the barrels and poles. Especially poles...a wicked pony on the poles is PHENOMENAL to watch.

Thanks, it's nice to see that ponys can do it as well as big horses! That dog in the second video looks like he's having a blast The pony I'm looking at is running about 22 seconds on poles and 17-18 in barrels. Not too bad since I'm just doing small, local stuff.

My little cow pony mare is only 13.3 and she can run a mean pattern when she wants to. The problem being, she rarely wants to. She's only been on gaming patterns for a summer so she's in the goofy phase still. She gets more and more solid every run and was just seriously started on poles about a month ago. Here's some pictures. The second one is the widest she has ever taken a barrel and you will see it in the video I'm going to post too. She hadn't really been ridden in a week or two she she wasn't listening all too well. I think that once she gets this year of seasoning under her belt she'll be a little beast.

First time loping poles, a barrel run, and then speed barrels and an idaho figure eight run in the video.

Then there's my friends paint mare Snoopy. You wanna talk about short, stocky, and beastly? You wanna talk about this mare! Just incredible. She's the sorrel arab-y paint thing in the videos.

My barrel mare is 14.3hh and built like a tank! She has always been able to keep up with the big guys at races. She is all cutting and reining bred but absolutely loves to run and is so athletic!

I had a 13.3 POA that kicked some major a$$ in my area. He ran 12.9 kegs (arena record) 8.6 flags, yearly arena record, 17.4 barrels (large pattern) another best of the year. High 8s in Down and Back. 6.5 in keyhole, and 22-23 second poles...which I always held him back because I preferred to ride clean.

That short little thing was flashy and had power like you wouldnt believe. Ill never own another one and miss him dearly.

The mare I leased this summer is only 14hh and we took Grand Champion/High Point of the year. We also took reserve highpoint of the day at our last show of the season with 300+ riders. We set multiple arena records for 2012 as well.

I love a wicked short speed pony. They are too impressive.
