Starlite is a coming 13 yr old Standardbred/QH mare. She's the best barrel horse I could ask for and always tries her heart out. We do gaming and I can't tell you how many times I have no idea what a certain pattern is until we get to the show, she has no idea...so I study it until we're up and we go in there and she never misses a beat.

She loves weaving, poles and straightline are her favorite events.

You just gotta watch out, though, she gets kinda crazy in between classes...LOL! I've never seen a horse that go can from ready to run to ready to nap within seconds. She knows the routine...she knows after she runs she gets to nap until it's time to go again. This is me being amazed by the fact my pepsi can fits perfectly on my saddle horn (and naturally taking a picture of it) and her just hanging out in between classes.

And this may be my prospect...we bought her as a weanling, she is a coming 2 yr old so we'll see how it goes. She is a paint, QH on her sires side and TB on her dams side.

I am going to start her off pleasure to get her used a calm showing atmosphere and unless she is an absolutely amazing pleasure horse, she will try her hoof at barrels when she is older

Haha! That pepsi on the saddle horn thing cracks me up!

I tried that with my coffee this weekend and ended up spilling it all over the front of Selena's neck and my lap. Luckily it was too cold for it to remain hot after it came from the pot!

This is my son's barrel/all-around pony, Billy (aka Not A Cow). He's a 14 Y/O POA with a typical pony attitude. But somehow he's a gem for my son (most of the time). I bought him off the dairy farm where I used to work just because I was sure he was going to founder or something worse. He was pastured with yearling heifers and was eating silage, rich alfalfa hay, and about 8 lbs of sweet feed every day. Needless to say, he was a ponypotomous! My poor son has had to earn his ride with this guy, but they are now inseperable. And the pony is beginning to offer him some amazing speed! I have a feeling that this year will be a good one for them.

And this is my horse, Patron (yes, like the tequilla). He's a 10 Y/O OTTB gelding with some serious anxiety issues. I bought him to be my next dressage horse, but his brain isn't wired that way. I trotted him around the barrels one day last summer and found that he LOVES it. Went from tense and spooking to calm and focused immediately. So I've switched over to the "dark side" and am giving contesting a try. He's currently loping the barrels and trotting the poles. Hope to get him out to some local shows this year for at least the exhibition classes.

HFhopper...your post cracked me up. I love how you described your son's pony. They look really cute together. My daughter is almost 9 and she earns her lopes out of her ride too. Her boy is 31 and prefers low gear. She gets it out of him somehow though. She runs barrels and poles on him. I love being able to share this with my kids. My daughter is living my childhood dream since I didn't get started until I was about 14.
