My dressage mare's gymkhana outing *pictures*

I took Molly to a local gymkhana yesterday. It was 102F out and terribly humid. We entered a reining class, barrels, cones and barrels, and poles.

Placed second in the reining class. She was pretty hot but we nailed out pivots and flying changes, so I was pretty happy about that.

DQed in barrels....I made the mistake of letting her go to the first barrel instead of trying to rate her, so we came up to it with too much speed and not enough room/time to set back on her hocks and make the turn. Instead of risking a run-in with the fence, I turned her the other way and went off pattern.

Cones and barrels was great! I rated her some so we could make the turns around the cones but still let her give me a decent pace for the barrels portion. We ended up winning this event!

Poles was fantastic as well. We had a nice quick run up the ring, made a tight turn around the end pole, and got into a great rhythm with our lead changes. We had the fastest time of anyone that went, but came too close to a pole on the way back and knocked it over, costing us a five-second penalty. Even with the penalty, we placed third.

I was pretty happy with her! We did the same events at this show last year, but other than that I've never schooled her on the patterns. She absolutely loves this, though.

Waiting to be called on deck:

The evil eye I get for holding her in....

Poles cont'd:

Phone book race, which we did just for kicks. Had a great run and found my page quickly, but we tripped the timer circling at the end.

Grazing after a bath:

I know the bridle was too loose; these nylon ones seem to stretch and don't hold the bit like a leather one does. I'll probably use a leather headstall next time.

Looks like you guys had a blast! I have to admit I was wondering how the bit didnt fall out of her mouth though XD don't you hate when they stretch? I have a purple one for Bella, and it went from being almost too small to a bit loose on her in a few months! >.>

Love the saddlepad too. We have the exact same one somewhere too, though its not in quite as good condition...ahaha

I hate nylon headstalls lol. It seemed nice and snug when I put it on, but when we were riding it stretched a ton.

Thanks! This pad is super old; I found it in the basement a few years ago which means it had been there since the early nineties .
