NBHA in NC

I was wondering if anyone has ever joined and started with local shows in NC? I live in eastern NC and it isn't horse country here like in TX.
I really want to join next year and they explain that there's little local shows and then of course you can travel to the nationals. I didn't see any local ones listed for NC on past schedules.
