Every horse is a unique individual. Some are free-runners and need a hands-off rider. Some are push-style and need to be driven from one point to another. And everything in-between.

You really want to get into stereotyping barrel racing as "kicking and whipping all the time"? Better not do it on this board.

Courtney made an absolute outstanding and phenomenal barrel run. I'll be happy if I can even get close to the standard pattern record someday, let alone be the one who SET IT.

Kittys got claws!

I am not a barrel racer, I have no idea about standard sizes blahblahblah. I watch the NBHA horses run 15s. Is that not a standard size? Someone please explain this to me.

It depends on the arena...in smaller arenas they won't be able to set up bigger patterns. But in big open arenas they can set up a standard pattern....

And the official "Standard Pattern" is 60' from the timer to the 1st barrel, 90' from the 1st barrel to the 2nd barrel, and 105' between 2nd and 3rd barrel. Does that make sense lol?

You're the one who's bashing the sport with generalized comment (or opinion, as you so claim). I felt compelled to defend barrel racing because it is not true that barrel racers kick and whip all the time. Yes, we've got our bad eggs in the sport (like any other horse sport), but Courtney Duncan is certainly not one of them. It'd be the same thing if I said I can't stand to watch western pleasure videos because of all the peanut rollers and numbed tails. Or that I can't stand to see Arabian halter horses because their noses are so dished that they can't even breathe properly for performance events. Yes, it would be my opinion. Not to mention, not true in the majority of cases.

Yes, you can watch whatever you want, but you said that barrel racing drives you nuts so I wouldn't understand why you would watch something that drives you nuts. Hence why I said not to watch it if it bothers you so.

The horse was sound and was able to be pushed. She pushed it and got the world record. No horse who is pushed will ever achieve anything outside of grazing in a pasture.

I was turned away from barrel racing at a young age when I wanted to do it SO badly. I went to the fair and it was horrible. Not one person rode right and I was apalled. My dreams of barrel racing flew out the window. If that's how people in my area did it (and I would be learning from people in my area), I wanted absolutely nothing to do with it.
