    New Youth Barrel Prospect

This is going to be my new guy for my kids to start barrels/poles on... He has taught many kids on the barrels/poles and trails... Wanting to get my kids started on him. What are your thoughts on him? He is 15.3h, 11yrs old. Super Excited to get my kids in on barrel racing.

He looks like a nice horse and has good old bloodlines. Mainly though with a kids horse safe and sane is the most important. As long as he's a good confidence builder and works well for children I'd say you have a great horse :) hopefully your kids will enjoy him and have fun learning on a good horse.

A horse that goes at the pace the kid tells him to go is worth their weight in gold.

He looks like he has a nice soft and kind eye.

.......... Is the kid in the last picture wearing a Magic Seat?

I'm not sure, that was one of the kids who learned to barrel race on him two years ago. I have been told nothing but good things about this horse..

This is off topic, but what is a Magic Seat? Though I've ridden Western, haven't heard of that one.

A Magic Seat is basically a velcro seat to artificially hold you in the saddle. It's very controversial.

I myself am against them. If you don't have the balance to hold yourself in the saddle properly, then you need to re-evaluate your riding technique.

Some argue that people who have certain disabilities or had a traumatic accident can use the magic seat to ride, but again, if you cannot ride by yourself, then you shouldn't be trying to do so because it's not safe. If you need helpers riding on either side of you until you build your strength, then so be it. Don't rely on the magic seat.

Magic Seat - The Tack Stop

Unfortunately, the Magic Seat is often seen where parents put their small children on their powerhouse of a barrel horse. The child is not strong enough to ride the barrel horse, so they "velcro" them to the horse for the sake of winning. THAT is the sort of thing that boils my blood.

I agree he has a soft/kind eye. He is a very pretty horse with good bloodlines.

I myself don't use a magic seat for my kids, not sure if the previous owners did or didn't at any time.
