OP, I TOTALLY agree!! Too many people use bits that they don't even understand.....often because the "cool folks" suggest them. Often, this is at the cost of their horses comfort. Bits never substitute for good solid training.

I would have to ask why such a harsh bit to let her know she will be gaming? It a halter would be OK....why not a halter? I doubt she would get it mixed up with fun for more than a few minutes.....

As far as the bit method goes, I find it pretty accurate. I notice a nutcracker effect on my own arm from the single joints and extra pinching and pressure from loose ring cheeks, which is why I generally ride loose ring snaffle with bit guards now. I don't think its going to feel exactly like it would to a horse, but I at least like to have a general idea. I can notice a differance from bit to bit.

I do certainly agree with the pinching from the snaffles. If I ever get in my mare's face too much with it (this has happened on my own stupidity), she'll go up and almost over. I rather like the three piece snaffles with the roller in the middle. However, I've only seen one of those..
