Sport Boots

How do you get your horses used to wearing boots? My gelding needs overreach boots and I bought front and back boots for him too. I put just front boots on him today and lead him around but he picks his feet up high and hits his hooves off of them. How do I get him used to them? He wore boots all the time as a 6 and 7 year old because he was a champion cutting and heeling horse. Its been about 3 years since he has had boots though. Any suggestions?

If he's making a big deal out of it, just put them on and lunge him/put him in a round pen. After a couple bucks he'll probably get over it. How funny xD sure you don't want a racking horse? :P

Most horses do that, he just needs to get used to them. Oh, and if he is getting them off by doing that, are you sure the are the right size?

Shouldn't ride him or just keep walking him on lead. I just don't want him to hit his legs and trip. He is one of those horses who won't trot while being lead either.

He isn't getting them off. Yes we had him measured. The vet that recommended he be put in boots actually measured.

Are you putting them on right? One time I totally wasn't paying attention and slapped Rebel's boots on right on left and left on right. He walked like a ******. Lol

Selena picks up her hind feet a little every time, but then she settles right into it.

I would just put the boots on, and turn him out in the round pen/arena for a little while. He should stop eventually.

Yeah. I even watched videos just to make sure! Haha! I guess I'll just throw him in the arena and let him figure out how to move with them on.

Maybe he just doesn't like the brand of boots? I know Selena won't slide with certain boots on. Maybe the same principle?

I just bought legacys to put on him and before that I tried my mares professional choice boots on him. I think he just dosen't like them on his legs. The vet highly recommended them though so I would like to get him to use them! Haha!
