Tiedowns & Martingales

Yeah openin up the soap box. I don't think you guys are going to jump on me though.

Just for fun, for those of you that run with a tiedown/martingale, what type of tiedown/martingale do you run in and why?

I rode in my drill team in a loose blue tiedown just because it matched the uniform. We all had tiedowns. They really weren't tight enough to make any effect.

I ran Rebel in a leather tiedown because quite frankly after being smacked in the nose by his head I thought it was time. I also noticed he really liked it though! He started making tighter, smoother turns. Then once I ran him without it and I noticed his turns were better without it too. So whatever floats his boat. Lol

Bailey was rode in a german martingale but didn't run in it.

I don't think Selena will ever need one of those, but if I do drill with her she will get a loose nylon one for the uniform purposes.

Pssh.I didn't pick up the wrong lead
It's called a counter canter...
...A very advanced maneuver.

I like to run my sorrel in a tie down for a few reasons:
1) She balances on it like she does when we're roping, so her turns are nicer
2) She likes to get frisky and toss her head everywhere
3) She only needs to bump the tiredown a couple times before realizing it's there, so she keeps her head at an acceptable level.

I wouldn't run in a martengale... I'd maybe do slow work with one, depending on the horse, but never run in one.

Patsy is an old barrel horse turned drill horse.
She rides so much better with a tie down, I think she has come to need it.
So that's how I ride her. Mind, she is 13, so she is kind of stuck in her ways.
I do not use it at home or trail riding. Just during drill.

Horses are proof that God love's us and wants us to be happy!
