Talking Went to a clinic!

So we just got back today from a Brenda Mays clinic which was AWESOME! I have pictures AND videos! It was a two day clinic and the first day we did a few drills (mom went to town during the first one so missed it). I was in Lynne and Vicki's group (Brenda's Sister and Mom) and Scrat was being a turd so Vicki got on him for a few. Then we did part of a drill one way then broke for lunch.

During lunch Brenda came and sat with me and our friends daughter outside the kitchen in the bleachers in the Indoor arena and we talked for a while. Then went outside and had a Q & A with all the people their, then went and got our horses for the 2nd half of the day. Which was the other part of the drill the other direction.

Then they set up the pattern and we all cruised through and they critiqued and seen what we all were doing. So I took Scrat and he kept stepping in and cheating me on 2nd and 3rd so they switched him to the left. Went through a few times then Vicki got on him again and took him through. Then I got back on and he finally worked really good so he was done for the day.

After we got done and horses put away I was walking out of the barn when Brenda walked in and I had my shades on and she was giving me crap lol and we talked for awhile while walking back down the shedrow.

So the first day was super fun and by the end of it she had everybody calling me Hollywood (had big shades, actually aviators lol).

On the next morning Vicki had me put a Banana Bit (new favorite bit) on Scrat, and Lynne had Brenda get on JJ ( I actually brought JJ along to just exercise and was wanting to get a few tips but got way more then that) and give him a tune up. So they split the group into 2 sections....the one section would work on drills in the indoor, while the other would go and make another run outside then we would switch after lunch. So I worked Scrat in the indoor first while Brenda was on JJ outside. And Scrat worked really good with the Banana bit. I don't have any videos of those drills because I wanted my mom to go video Brenda instead.

So after I got done with lunch Brenda wanted to know if I wanted to go down and she could work with me and JJ so I did. And everybody from her group was done and were all in the indoor watching, so it was just Brenda and I. And before I got on she got that look when looking at Scrat and said to put the Banana bit on JJ and to see, so she rode him with it first and played with it for a few minutes. Then I got on and she had me roll him to the first and he came back to me SOO good I was like OMG! And so she worked with me and him for a bit which was awesome.

Her mom asked if she would get on JJ and that he is my good horse and I needed some help and she took the time to get on him and work with him all morning which meant the world to me. And it was nice that it was 1 on 1 with her. All 3 of them actually spent a lot of time 1 on 1 time with me and helped me a bunch. They are a really awesome family that I am lucky to have come to know :)

So enough rambling and I will just get going with the pics and videos!!!

Videos will be in this post then the pics in the next :)

Scrat doing the two barrel drill to the right

Two barrel drill to the left, sort of being an a$$. And then comes the Hollywood comment lol!

Brenda tuning on JJ

Brenda tuning on JJ some more

Brenda working with me and JJ

Scrats run through Sunday after lunch

So like I said they are an amazing group of people who went out of their way to help me this year at their clinic and it means a lot to have come to know people like them. Brenda was VERY helpful when asking her some rodeo questions and other things, and she is a HOOT let me tell ya lol and very fun to be around. She also had nothing but good things to say about my guys which really made me feel good.

Just curious what problems you were having with JJ and why she tuned on him the way she did?

He was running by the first (strong and hard) and not rating down no matter WHAT you did, he just tucked his head and went when you asked him to come back to you. And in the first video of her on him you can see and hear exactly what he did.

You have my eternal jealousy! I would LOVE to get Brenda on Selena at a clinic....Out of curiosity how much did it cost you to participate? I haven't looked at a price on a clinic for ages. Your horses are SO nice too.

It is $375 and you get a lot of 1 on 1 since their are 3 people. They make it so fun and relaxed and a lot of joking and laughing too. They also explain everything so well and if you don't understand they will explain it until you do and help you until you feel comfortable with what your doing. So worth the $375 in my book, they tell you how it is and don't tip for around you but don't insult you like some of the clinicians that make you feel tiny and worthless about yourself.

And thank you :)
