What would you pay for this barrel saddle?

Hi, I am currently looking for a barrel saddle. I have 2 options so far but only have pictures of one.

American Circle A Barrel racing saddle,15 in,quarter horse bars. This saddle is like brand new, used maybe half dozen times. She wants $700.00 but is open to a reasonable offer. This is the one in the picture.

The other saddle is an American saddlery saddle, fairly good condition, size 15, bought it new 3 years ago. asking $550 or best offer. Don't have a picture yet, hoping to try it out this weekend. I know the girl that is selling it so I'm sure it is in very good condition.

Question 1. Not including price, which saddle would you choose based on brand?
Question 2. What would you offer for either one of these saddles? As in how much would you pay for either saddle if you were looking for one.

Of course this is assuming both of them would fit my horse. If it doesn't fit I wouldn't buy either one.

Well to give a better prospective, a brand new Circle A will cost you less thatn $1000 American Saddlery, Inc. > Barrel Saddles

Used 16" American Saddlery Western Saddle for Sale - FREE Ads This one is nice and $550

I would say $450-$500 would be a decent offer.

I have to tell you though, I had an American Saddlery saddle and it really wasn't very nice. Maybe their barrel saddles are nicer but I had a show saddle and it really was very uncomfortable.

Much better buy!

To the OP
I would not buy either one. I would find a good used Circle Y, Billy Cook or wait for a great buy to come along for the same money. I bought my daughter's Double J Lynn McKenzie Special for $475

Neither as shown there's better buys to be found. I might be selling my Billy Cook soon too or trading. $550 used but still in great shape.

Thanks for the advice. I will probably still try out the second one as she boards at the same barn just to see what I think of it. I will probably hold out for a billy cook anyways. Can I ask though, what is the reason you guys don't like these saddles? Is it because of the make or price or other reasons? I just want to know what you are basing this off of.

Streakin - While I do think your saddle is good, I'm not a huge fan of getting a saddle shipped to me. I am mental about always trying it on my horse before buying. It would probably fit but what if it didn't.

What would you guys think of a brand new Billy Cook 15 inch? Never been used, I saw it in one of our tack shops and fell in love. What would you pay for something like that? They wanted $1,195 for it in December. I almost bought it too as for the month of December they were selling everything with no tax on top. But I'm not really an impulse buyer so I didn't.

If you are a serious barrel racer and are going to be putting this saddle to use than don't even waste your time trying either one of them on your horse. JMHO! Is the BC a Maker saddle out of Sulphur OK? If not don't spend the money.

Those BC's are a steal at $550 if they are the maker model :)

Yep....mines genuine...not the Greenville BC.:)

Unless your horse is mutton withered and a tank, this saddle will fit. Your call though.

I agree that I would NEVER buy either of the saddles in the original question. Both are off-brand CHEAPLY made saddles and not worth my time. Especially American Saddlery ... all of their saddles that have come through my hands in the past would pinch at the withers, leather would warp, and was obvious cheap = cheap.

You are much better buying a used name-brand high-quality saddle because your horse will appreciate the quality of the materials and it will last you longer (a used saddle made with good materials will last longer than a brand new cheap saddle).

The Billy Cook posted by Streakin looks really nice. If I were in the market for a saddle, I'd for sure consider it.
