Why I don't like barrel racers

Now, before I get every barrel racer telling me that "this doesn't always happen!" I'm going to say I've competed with a lot of barrel racers and have competed non pro because I don't have the heart.
I have won.locally many times because I could walk my horse in and fly into a gallop. No rearing, no going sideways, no acting like an (to be honest) an untrained idiot. So long as they can run and maybe doing flying a lead change, let's just run!
Whatever happened to displine? Especially with trainers and riders? Oui....
Why is it so hard to teach our horses to stop amd run?

Fun vid. I've only seen people barrel race, and I don't care for the "flapping legs" run back home. It looks silly to me... Defiantly to each there own. I really liked the horse that went to finish the pattern even after the rider was vanquished.

Hahah one of my favorite things to do is watch bad barrel racing videos on youtube.

I'm not a big fan of barrel racing for a lot of the reasons. I don't often watch runs that don't make me cringe a little. But a friend of mine was telling me she never sees that stuff happen when she races.

Trust me I train barrel horses and I don't like watching those videos.

Absolutely nothing wrong with barrel racers, the good riders and the well trained horses are a joy to watch. That other stuff is a mess!

Hey now, that's a little uncalled for..not all barrel racers and barrel horses are like that..Ouch, that actually stings and insults a little, don't judge a whole sport because of a few Youtube videos..

Gosh, I sure hate Arabians..They're all hot freaks and can't do anything but jump around and act like idiots..and those stupid costumes? Who does that? With their crazy little jingle bells and such..


Sucks doesn't it?, but I'm not going to judge a whole discipline and breed by a bunch of crazed Arabians I've seen.. And for the record..My "crazy undisciplined" barrel horses know how to run and stop..correct flying lead changes and all. Oh my!

Careful now with these discpline bashing threads - they are very unfair.
I love dressage, I am a dressage rider and probably will always be a dressage rider. There are multiple videos on youtube bashing dressage, how 'cruel' we are, how EVERY dressage horse is locked in an isolated stable 24/7 and wrapped in cotton wool, brought out and worked with its chin on its chest for an hour, being spurred and yanked.

How about eventing? The horses that break their legs gong flat out galloping over solid fences?

Racing? Show jumping? Reining?


Hell, lets just say that EVERY riding discipline is cruel, and we should all just give up and learn Parelli.

Btw my trainer would shoot me between the eyes if I ever ruined my horse or rode like some of those youtube videos....[I didn't actually watch btw but trust me all those videos with the accidents came form the same ebarrelracing site. I know this because I downloaded all the raws of those exact same clips when I was still editing them for youtube]

I agree with you 100% Kayty..hmm maybe we should be even better and join the PETA parade..We'll let all of our pretty ponies go into the wild and they'll be happy forever!
