My horse has never been around livestock or cattle before I bought her. Now she lives on a beef farm and loves to work. She brings all the cows in from bulls, steers, heifers, and calves she's really good with the cows.
So yesterday I went and rode with Rob.. I think we're going to work out a part time position, he called me and needed help so I went over and rode his 3 horses and wow, there's a world of difference in riding an old retired stud horse and riding his cutting horses and sorting horses.. Favorite had to be Kong, his gorgeous, huge dark bay gelding that's currently qualified for world in sorting..I am in love! He is like a brick house and even walks with power and an authority like air to him. I warmed him up and then worked the flag on him..it was going amazing and we were getting really low working the gap, and sorting you have to use both hands so I didn't have an oh crap handle like I did on the cutter so after a few quick jumps back and forth he almost lost me but I spider moniked it and lasted half a second before I was back with the flag and Rob was laughing at me.. Apparently Kong had left a lot of people in the air and Rob wanted to test me and my riding and was "very impressed" with my riding after I stayed on Kong.. He also put me on a little 4yr old palomino filly that he's training and she was a fun one, so little and catty, super quick little mare and she's doing really well for a 4 yr old, just doesn't really know the whole deal so you have to help her through it on the flag... His cutter and I didn't exactly get along at first because I didn't have spurs on him and he was trying to cheat me, after he and I had a heart to heart and a "that's not going to work" session he did really well for me.. Anyway, had to update now that its looking like I might be doing a bit more riding or them, apparently they haven't found anyone else really good or has experience like I do so who knows? I go back this week to work cattle and help next Saturday with horses because they have a few potential buyers coming out to look at a few horses.. So we'll see!
