Is there a difference between cutting and penning? If so what? Thanks in advance!

I'm no expert but I believe cutting is picking out a designated cow and keeping it out of the rest of the herd.
Penning is getting the cow into a pen in the middle or other side of the arena.

Cutting is ,cutting away one cow from the heard and staying with it as long as possible not letting it get back to the herd.

Penning is with three people, where your given 3 numbers and three cows in the herd have those numbers and you have to get those cows in the pen as fast as possible
