Cool Anybody Here Own Clydesdales?

Hello, my name is Louise and I own a 3 year old Clydesdale named Charlotte. I bought her July 2011 and she's an amazing girl. I have been using her for trail riding but i've also taken her to one gaming show and I've done a little bit of jumping with her (taking it slow as she's still young). When I bought her she was 16hh and 1050lbs, very thin. We found out the reason why was because she was unable to eat, the previous owners hadn't pulled her wolf teeth yet. She also put her tongue over the bit when I first got her and the previous owner told me it was because she was a baby. But within 2 weeks of getting those teeth pulled, her tongue was back under the bit. She does also have a parrot mouth but this doesnt affect her eating ability at all. She's very personable and friendly, loves other horses and people. We got her because my husband wanted to ride (he's 6'5") and she does great with him as well, and he is a dead beginner rider with no experience. For a 3 year old, I honestly couldn't have found a more perfect horse! I'd love to hear about anybody else's clydes!!

I have an 8 year old Clydesdale named Gus. I got him just before Christmas so I am new to draft ownership but I have quickly fallen in love with him. He is 18.1H and a big baby! I also have a Quarter Horse mare that I barrel race and 6 miniature donkeys (plus one on the way). Gus was previously used at a children's camp to give lessons and I got him hoping my non-horsey hubby would ride some with me but I haven't been able to get him on just yet. I just recently got back into riding after being off for about 12 years so I have put Gus in charge of helping me gain my confidence and balance back (since I have no choice but to ride him bareback because I don't have a saddle that fits him )

Hi there! Your horse is gorgeous!! I love the black clydes. Are you going to trail ride him? Or do you have other plans? What state do you live in? Have you had any issues with scratches/mud rot this year? Ive been battling it with my girl. Her feathers had be shaved off to get it under control L. Its nice to meet you, Id love to chat more

I've always wanted one, can you do light leisure riding with them easily? As in just some trotting and cantering. I've heard their personalities are generally docile too.

Yes! You most definitely can. My mare has the smoothest trot and canter. It feels like Im floating. I have personally never ridden such a wonderful gait before. I have heard this is common with Clydesdales. Just looking at them you wouldnt think so, cause of the short back.. but the long legs definitely make up for it J. I know my girl would be a fantastic dressage horse, shes got the moves for it. Shes also an amazing jumper, I have only jumped her 3 times since shes still young but she clears a 2ft jump by a few feet, shes got some good scope J
