Care and feeding of a Clydesdale mare
My husband just purchased a pregnant 5 year old Clydesdale mare.
I know how to care for a light horse, but I really have no clue when it comes to feeding a draft mare.
The farm she came from fed her, "a scoop of 12% sweet feed; a scoop of oats; some supplements; and some loose salt." She did not say what supplements, what kind of sweet feed, or anything other than what I quoted.
Since we've had her, she's only on grass hay.
What should I be doing for her? She has access to water (of course) and a trace mineral salt block. There is some grass in the pasture and we feed her hay. We live in a hot climate.
