So far so good. She has adjusted very well. Still finishing up some fence work (paddock), and stall work before we turn her in at night. She is still on pasture and is doing just fine.

2 vets checked her out, 1 by the seller and 1 by me after I picked her up. She is UTD on everything and coggins free. Both vets or spot on together and said she is no older than 10. Both said she is in great health and I got a great horse.

She got her first bath... It went well except when the dogs got behind her to watch she got a little spooked but more moving around just to keep an eye on them. We had to lock the dogs up just to keep her at rest. After bathing her we uncovered A LOT of botfly eggs. So we got a bot knife and got after it. We gave her, her first dose of dewormer and bot killer stuff. So she should pick up some weight on the backend.

We dont think she is pregnant, she was flashing Jens gelding all weekend and we had to keep the old man gelding from trying to mount her.

Her and the paint mare had it out like a bunch of 3 year olds. I say this cause when we were looking both of them would be getting a long and eating together. As soon as we turn our backs... wham.. bam.. boom... smack. we'd run to look and both would see us then go back about normal business. So I am sure they got that out of their systems and seem to be doing well now. The paint mare landed some good kits on her to show who was queen around there. Dont expect any more hissy fits as my girl just follows the paint around now.

I am doing well with her, I twice this weekend showed a timid or freak out when she would manage to put her weight between me and a wall or me and a fence. I am working on this. It's something about being crushed is not on my agenda but I do need to keep myself in check. She tested me and Jen all weekend to see what she could get away with... I need to remain consistent.

She is FAT. Good lord she is so pudgy. Grab the front quarter and jiggle jiggle... So she will need some conditioning. All in all she is absolutly beautiful!!

She will prove to be a great fit for me as she is calm natured and as long as I keep her from bossing me she will let me do anything to her with no reaction. If I did some of the things I did with her this weekend with an Arab or a QH I would be in the hospital.

Still want to do a couple things around her and get her situated before Jen or I get on her back. We are goin to find a trainer to work with her and me so we can both get up to speed together.

Will post pics soon! Thanks for all the help in the "draft forum" from all of you, it has made the process a lot smoother in prep.

Not to sound like a wise guy but make sure your trainer knows more than you do. A lot of people call themselves trainers and really know nothing at all. Ask for references and check them out first.
All horses are grazers and most can do well on pasture and hay, especially the draft type horses. They are such easy keepers but if you have to supplement with grain they do well with low fat, low protein feed if being used moderately.
Most horses do well with 24/7 turnout and access to shelter.
The pictures you posted of her show her to be in very good weight.
I feed Triple Crown Lite and no matter what you feed it is important to monitor your horse. Read the bag, it will have recommenations depending on how much you use your horse (calories burned). Also, invest in a small food scale and weigh your horses feed. Do not feed by the scoopful. Not all scoops are created equal and the scoop itself will vary in weight. My feeds are recommended by amount of weight to feed not by how many scoops. No matter what you decide on watch your horses weight and condition and increase or decrease the amount you feed according to body score/condition. Don't overlook the importance of forage, it should be the number one item in a horses diet........not grain.
Good luck with her, she is a beauty.

I just want to say first that your girl is absolutely gorgeous and I am glad to hear that it's likely she isn't pregnant. Draft crosses with another smaller using breed like a QH, Arab, Appy, Paint, etc. make very nice horses but I would wonder about a Zebra cross.

As for the feeding, if she is maintaining her weight well on grass hay, I would continue her on grass hay. It doesn't have to be coastal, just any good quality grass. After you begin to work her, you might consider adding a bit of alfalfa. Mine get a grass/alfalfa mix and keep their weight well. They are also under semi-steady work as a pulling team. We keep just a simple white salt block for minerals but if you would like to get the mineral block, that's fine. Just make sure that there is no urea in whatever minerals you get. That is bad for all horses. I can't wait to see some more pix of her when you get her home.
