Yep. It is a long way. Many of the horses travel huge distances to Appleby, pulling a vardo (gypsy caravan) with more horses following along behind.

No - no Cowboy Magic etc. for the gypsies. Some dry their horses with towels, others just dry on their own. And this will surprise you. They often dry and fluff the feather with sawdust!

Feathered, really?! I thought I came up with that, I use wood pellet bedding, that turns to saw dust when it gets wet. Whenever I give my mare a bath I rub her legs with the dry sawdust to get her feathers dried all the way through so she won't get scratches!! Haha, must be one of those memories you remember from your ancestors :P I forget what it's called, my grand father was born/raised in Ireland, raised horses, had to move to the US and drove teamsters in the town I grew up to drive carriage tours in! XD

Yeah. The Gypsies almost always carry sawdust with them, to the fairs. I know you and I have seen it at fairs when we were there.

I wish I had gotten to go to the fairs! As awful as some of it is, it also sounds thrilling. Not the abuse part, but the horses everywhere and the chaos - it sounds fun :)

Really? No cowboy magic for the tangles. What do they use?

For my gypsy colt I use baby oil and water, well shaken and sprayed on. :P He's only 2 and his tail touches the ground xD
