Now that I've wiped the drool off my keyboard, I'm subbing. Everyone has such beautiful beasties!
Once the drafties I work with (a Belgian mare and a Shire gelding) shed out and quit looking like wooly mammoths, I'll get some pictures of them and post them here!
I just purchased my first draft horse last weekend. Meet Avalon's Limited Edition, aka "River".
River is a coming 7yo Shire mare. She comes from some phenominal breeding, her sire Metheringham Upton Isaac, is a 19.1hh multi-national champion (the grey below). Her damsire is Walton Troop Leader, a canadian eventer (the black). Her dam had a small but successful show career before becoming a broodmare. River's half sister (dam's foal) is a mounted police horse and actually carried the US flag into the 2010 WEG, she also does lower dressage riding with her owner. Well built horses, good movers, but level headed and rational. .
She's had one foal, a black filly back in 2010. And had a minor show career as a young thing. I plan to do weekend carriage driving with her, as well as some light hobby eventing, and just overall pleasure horse. She's got some "hitch" to her step, but I doubt I'll ever really show her, there's just so much money involved in that. I am starting her on some basic Parelli games, just to get her to learn to move off of pressure and respect my space. She is very green to ground driving, the bit is still a little confusing to her. We can sit up on her and ride her with about as much success as ground driving, she doesn't mind that I'm up on her, she just doesn't know what she's supposed to do. She's got a good, level head on her, quick learner, not spooky, and mostly does want to please, she just hasn't had much work done with her yet. Let the games begin!
This is Abby :) she's a 10 yr old, 18hh PMU Percheron. She originally came in for 30 days training, just a restart, as she was previously broke as a trail horse (minus a canter) Now we've got w/t down and we're just trying to figure out her left lead. She HATES it. So, balance and exercise it is. Her owner has agreed to keep her on my program as a lesson horse in exchange for lessons for herself and continued western trail training on Miss Abby :) win win for everybody, and Abby gets new friends! The last picture is her and her owner on their first ride in 2 years, their first parade, and their first ever trail ride :)
Can I just say I'm jealous of you all! LOL. I can't wait till I finish college and can get another draft. I had a percheron mare, Belle. She bullied my little arabian though and at the time there wasn't enough room where I boarded to seperate. Loving all your photos though! (:

Oh what a beautiful perch! I wish mine had a nice strong back too.
