If this horse was a car, it would be a Hummer; low, squat and very strong.

Haha that sounds about right! But she's definitely a military Hummer, not one of the luxury SUV style ones. I hate those! >.<

I know its a bit late and im new but I hope these count too though I've never owned a horse I've always loved the draft crosses
1.Buddy's a Belgianxhalflinger or Belflinger 15.3
2.Friday's a black 16.2 thoroughbredxclydesdale( I think he looks more like a percheron)
3. Sporties another clydexTb 15.3, she's the bay

I started off going reading thru this thread making a multi quote post of every horse I thought was outstanding, but it turned out I was quoting every thread that had the picture of a horse so forget it. I'll just reply to all in general.

I have to say, I've realized with this thread, that my favorite horses are the draft crosses. Every single one I have owned and met has had the best temperament and the best work ethics. I would say 90% I've seen has been big and bulky but not to big or heavy to do hunters/jumpers/dressage and because they are draft crosses they really stand out over any other purebred!

You guys all have outstanding horses, hope to see more pictures posted in here!

It must have been at least a week since I spammed this thread with Flirt photos.

And I found this one on his breeder's FB the other day. Flirt and his mumma are on the far right

Your mare is gorgeous! I am in love with her, what a stunner! How old is she? She looks like she's young and still filling in.

I have a question for other half-draft owners.

Aires has been going through an odd growth spurt lately. He is growing vertically (probably around 16.1-16.2hh now), but is becoming EXTREMELY narrow. So narrow that my friend's semi-QH bar Circle Y saddle that fits her narrow arab is too wide for him. Anyone else's half-draft go through a phase like this? PLEASE tell me he'll broaden out again!! He's by no means skinny, he's just...narrow. With no withers...at all.

I can't answer for every horse. Like people, they're not all the same.

I've seen them keep filled out as they got taller. Get leaner and keep a lean shape. Thin down and fill back out. There are different things that can also play a part (e.g. Genetics, diet, etc....). I had to put my older mare on a diet when she stopped going up, because she started out out too much. To the point that I had to press harder than should have been needed to feel her ribs.

You'll just have to wait and see. So long as he's not thinner than he should be for good health I wouldn't worry much about it. If he's got too lean he should start bulking up eventually after he stops going upward.

My experience has been that they tend to be such easy keepers too much weight is more often the problem.
