I have a lot of work ahead of me to just get her trained on the ground before foaling. She is BARELY halter broke or human handled! In the past couple of weeks, the previous owner left her halter/lead rope on 24/7 in a small pen to catch her (the old cowboy way to halter break). But now that she is on 9 acres of open pasture, all bets for easy catching are off. At this point, she comes right up to me, takes treats nicely from hand, and I can rub the tip of her nose/lips, but that's about it. We did leave the halter on her until we get through the initial vet & farrier visits on Tuesday, and even though I hate to admit it, I expect we will have to tranq her to get everything done. I wouldn't even bother to rush this but she needs her rhino vac and her feet are in desperate need of attention, as it is obvious she has never had her feet done before.
But afterwards, the halter comes off and we will begin at scratch with teaching her to accept human contact and then the halter and so on. How far we get before foaling will be determined by her.
