I wanted all of us half draft owners/enthusiasts to have a place to come brag about our big boys and girls! So post here and keep us updated on your half draft, and I'm sure everyone wants to see PICTURES!!!
Heres mine: Jumble! 3 y/o 16h Percheron/TB, green green green broke. Less than thirty rides! We are currently learning how to steer and working on building up a topline. We are taking it easy as he is still a growing boy! Will get riding pictures next week, until then this is really all I have:
Here's my beautiful boy, Finnegan, again...my, how much he has GROWN UP in the two years since I bought him! Can't believe it. First pic is at 9 months old, and second is 2 years 10 months.
He's Percheron/Oldenburg.
I guess I should add some new ones of Rafe since we've actually...FINALLY...reached another milestone. He's finally been started in earnest under saddle (he'll be 4 in July), I've used him on cattle already and he's an extremely pleasant horse to ride. He also got his very first set of shoes ever the other day...
We've been really enjoying our rides together.
Though he kind of makes me look tiny LOL. He really doesn't feel that big when I'm on him.
And I'm so thankful he got his momma's temperament as he is very patient and calm while I scramble up his side.
He's such a big old sweetie
And he's only slightly bigger than he used to be LOL
For those of you that remember my earlier pictures - heres some of Ruby - Wishaw Fantasia half Clyde half TB. I have just sold her and this was a video made for her ad. 3 weeks earlier she was unbroken
She went on Trade Me on Friday night, was sold on Monday, paid for and left on Tuesday.
^^^Whats not to love about a Clyde Cross
Actually I just love all these draft crosses
Now all we need are some official show classes for them in the US - similar to the (real) hunter and cob classes we have in the UK
This is my half draft, Lucy, who I have had for a little over a year. She is a 12 year old Percheron x Morgan. She has a great calm temperament, but has just the right amount of get-up-and-go for me as a confident beginning rider. She is approx. 15 hh and approx. 1200 lbs - I've only ever used a height/weight tape to measure her, and those really only give you a rough estimate. She is the apple of my eye
Meet my new gelding Helios! He's a 2003 Belgian x Thoroughbred, 16.2 hh or so. Leo for short. We'll be doing english pleasure once my saddle ships. He's a finished roper but sat in a small paddock for a year. In the meantime we've been doing clicker training and fattening him up. He has a giant heart and hasn't ceased to amaze me with his excellent work ethic. I am so looking forward to starting our training undersaddle!
Meet our girl. We have 2 horses, a QH stud Cruiser(who most of you know from the many threads with photos I have), and we also own a draft cross filly. Dad is a registered Paint and mom is a Clyde/QH cross.
Well, Taz got his start under saddle today, it was rather uneventful but I didn't try to ride him because I nearly heat stroked myself and had to quit.
He's at a stage where he's looking very warmblood-ish
