My Baby is a Mare, it was funny, when I saw her, she was 1 YO and offered as a Haflinger (at a sale), we have neighbors with Belgians, but none of them have any coloring close to hers, being a young Horse we took the mans word for it, after tracking down the breeder to get the papers we found out she is a Belgian.
Small Shock, we were looking for a mid sized sturdy Horse, not a 16-1 hand 1500 lb (that is what both parents measure). O'well we would not part with her for the world, never could get papers (misled again, got to watch auctions).
But she was well worth 500.00 even without Papers

Yah, I can relate to your experience with unexpected size..... I adopted a PMU yearling and was told he would probably be around 16 hds. When grown. He's 4 yrs. Old now and 17.3!! We all love him to death though and despite the extra money spent for feed, shoes, larger tack and now needing a taller, longer horse trailer, we wouldn't trade him for the world! He has the best personality. There were some paint-marked Belgians in Canada where he came from, probably crosses so if she's a cross then maybe there's some paint in her background.

He is one massive horse. You make him look at a lot smaller than he actually is. You must be tall!
