Not sure if these are in the running or not:

Akhal-Teke - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia with appx 3500 horses. These are gorgeous horses.

and

Eriskay Pony - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia with appx 304 ponies

Don't quote me on this, but I saw a program on RFD-TV that said the American Cream Draft was the rarest breed - but that just may be because they're a relatively newish breed?

Ardennes and Brabants are pretty rare. In the US at least. I think they're more prominent in Europe.

Suffolk Punch drafts are also very rare. Only about 1,300 world wide.

The American Cream draft is also extremely rare. Only about 308 in existence.

Me too, they're fabulous.

Here's a pic of an American Cream Draft:

And here's a site about the Suffolk Drafts: Welcome to the American Suffolk Horse Association Website

Quite interesting.

I worked on a dude ranch once that had a horse that looked almost exactly like the Cream Draft above. His name was Bud Light. No one knew what he was (we all assumed he was a draft mixed with a palomino horse of some sort and got lucky with coloring), he was given to the owner of the ranch because his previous owner wanted his horse to have a good home. How cool would it be if he was a Cream Draft?! Though I'm sure he's dead now, he was old when I worked there, and that was almost 10 years ago...

American Creams have less than 500 worldwide. I'm lucky enough to know one, and he's one of the smartest horses I've ever met. I've caught myself talking to him like he's a person a couple of times, and I swear he can understand me.
