Not sure what roping reins are. Are they connected like English reins? I searched and searched and found a pair of webbed English reins that are extra long so that even if my 18 hd. gelding puts his head down to eat, I still have plenty of reins to hold on to. I can measure them if you want.
That would be great! I still have the reins from my 18hh TB i uswed to own. They doin't fit my clyde, but they definitely weren't very long on my TB, either.

I would probably look for something 10+ feet long. Though it is unlikely that you will be able to find a set of leather reins that are one solid piece with no stitching or buckles. If you like the marine rope reins like the mecate's are made of, here is a site that has some other length options. I know they do custom lengths for shorter than 9 feet but they might also do a custom order for longer. Reins at horsefriendly.com Tack Shop
Shockingly, I found some extremely long ones at our local tack shop... and they're black (perfect) ...and adjustable. Well over 10 feet in length. Now I just need $35. Ouch
I would have them made. There are tons of saddle makers out there that can make a great set. Finding any kind of long reins for these guys can be a pain!
You can make your own for less than $10. Go to Home Depot, Lowe's, or any hardware store. You can pick out what color and size rope you want. They also have the clips to make them into reins.
That's what I'm talkin' bout! I am definitely a woman of resources and money saving.
The reins I was looking at (the $33 ones) were just made of lead rope rope and the adjustable leather pieces are just wide stirrup straps. Or like you said, I can get clips.
I think I'll have to make my own. I can't bring myself to spend $33 or pay for shipping when I can make some for a few bucks.

Funny, you guys just reminded me that years ago my hubby made me a set out of mountain climbing rope. I LOVED those things better than any set I ever bought. And they were purple, lol. Wonder what ever happened to them. Bet they got buried in a box when we moved here. I may just have to go tack box rummaging...
My husband gave me 12feet of our marine line rope. You can buy this stuff pretty much anywhere (we got it at Canadian Tire but I'm sure any hardware store will have it). Then I attached them to the bit with slobber straps. Best thing about marine line - won't mildew, stiffen up, or stretch. Unfortunalty the only thing I found is that it comes in white with blue specks. But I'm sure if you do some shopping you could find any colour you want.
Xilikeggs0, what kind of clips are you refering to, could you post a picture. I made mine with rope and leather strips with the ribbets you can get at TSC. But I'm curious about the clips. I used 10.5' of rope with leather strips to hold the latches on the end of the rope.
