Show me your PMUs!

This is Isabella, she was a PMU mare for ~ 6 years, off the line for another 6 years...and still has a few trust issues that we're working on. I was lucky enough to track down a few pictures of her still in Canada.

And today...

Sorry for the large size!

Now show me your PMU babies!

Chica, how tall is she? She looks to be quite the tall girl. My mare is more short and wide (not fat, just drafty wide). 15.3 and 1300lbs

I measured her at inbetween 17.1 and 17.2 the other day. She's a big girl for sure.

That's a very attractive mare. If you've ever wondered what the #s on her butt mean, 8, 810, the 8 most likely refers to the year she was born. She'd be a '98 foal. The 810 would refer to her ID #. 810 mares might sound like a bunch but consider that some of these operations have been in business for 20-30 years or more and with an average of 65 mares on the line, that's not that many. Another way to look at the # is the lower 8 was poorly done so they restarted the #s and it's just 810. Again the 8 would tell you the year she was born and her # is simply #10 out of the 1998 filly crop. Every ranch I've visited used this basic system for identifying the mares. I've only seen 2-3 inch #s branded on the shoulder or flank so I don't know whose it might be.

Do you know which providence she came from? If she's been off the line for 6 years, that would mean she was done in '05. In 2005 all the Wyeth ranches that were greater than 150 miles from the main facility in Manitoba lost their contracts. Every ranch in Alberta, W Saskachewan, N Manitoba and 1/2 of N Dakota was out of business. 100,000+ mares were suddenly dumped. That was when there was a huge push to rescue PMU horses and they flooded the US market. She shows some quality Clyde somewhere in her pedigree. If she came out of Alberta, I would bet she has some Willow Way in her.
