They just dont make cool stuff big!

My goodness when I got my new percheron cross mare I really didnt think things through well. I knew she was big at a smidge over 17.1 but just about everything has to be supersized with this girl. Went to lots of our local farm and tack type shops in search of anything in draft size with no luck. Sure I could order online and spend lots for custom boring big stuff, but I am one of those cheap people who like pretty things. So along with her, my new project has been making all her horsey stuff Started with a rope halter and it just took off from there. Just finished a breastcollar and bridle set I've been working on last few days and the grand total for materials was less than half what a fancy set would cost. It is my first tack set so its a little rough but I am pleased. Anybody else got some cool pretties for thier big horses??

That is wonderful that you were able to make that for yourself! Be careful-I can see people wanting you to make things for them & it could turn into a nice little side job (or more). Since I have the opposite size problem, the hole punch is used a lot, but them there is all the extra length & cutting it off isn't always a good idea. I'm not at all "crafty".

Watch out Endurance Chica - I want a set! That is so awesome. I'd love a set in baby blue with black leather. Totally need to learn how to work leather so I can actually make one hey?

...and my horse is a 15.1 anglo arab ridden English so it's usually real easy to find cool stuff that'll fit him. But I WANT!

NICE!!!! We have shire and clydes, so we are always on the hunt for fancy bling for our girls! You could make a fortune making nice draft tack. There just isn't much to pick from.

Thanks! I would love to make money off the stuff I make but I am great at the crafts but not so much the sales part. I just always see the flaws in things I make and think Oh that's not something people would pay for. Leather crafts are my absolute favorite though. I have made purses, couple sets of chaps, wallets, spur straps, and a bunch of household stuff so far. My favorite purse I actually made out of a pair of old worn out boots. Maybe Ill have to get more confident and motivated at making this a side job.... Would love to make custom leather pieces

Pretty fancy :) I agree, got my gelding as an 11 mo. Old and never dreamed he'd end up 18 hds. And 1800 lbs or so..... the fanciest I've found is a bridle with a black/white browband and cavesson.... we can only get fancy saddle pads...... looking for a blanket, there was only one brand in his size, plain old black/blue...... sigh...... maybe I'll have to get creative like you! Did you buy the bridle, breast collar and modify it or actually make it?

And danastark, I went down to the leather store and bought all the leather and made the bridle and breast collar. Found pictures of similar things I liked and made myself some large patterns and went from there. I suppose I could have just modified a set, but I didnt want it to look pieced together or anything. Thankfully I wont be needing a blanket for her, but I may end up putting together a cooler for her since I like the pretty stuff. No plain old black/blue here!
