I've stalked this particular forum for about three years before deciding to sign up.I don't own any horses(I wish I did),but that wont stop me from learning more about horse breeds and the equine species in general.
I'm not much for draft breeds but I must admit the Boulonnais has caught my eye,and I have several horse breed books but none can tell me what exactly went into the breed to make it the Boulonnais. For instance I know that to make an Azteca you'd have to infuse the Andalusian,Criollo and Quarter horse to get the Azteca.I hope that makes sense.I can hardly find any info about the breed here on Google, and I was hoping to see if anyone could help me out here. The reason I ask is because I intend to breed Boulonnais horses one day and I need to know what went into the breed to make them and or if I have to fly to France one day and attempt to import some back to the USA for breeding purposes.
Apparently there are only about 700 of the breed in Europe. I am curious to know if the studbooks is open to any kind of mixes and crosses with other breeds that are included in their original ancestry, such as andalusian.
Thankyou for your help But yes I've already looked into those two sites.Luckily I found two websites that sell Boulonnais horses or Bologne horses. XD The reason I requested this info is because I have a high interest in bringing the breed back to North America and breeding them along with the Spanish Norman,Andalusian,Lusitano,Alter Real, and Lipizzan breeds.Thankyou again for your help
Hello! I am working on a project on the Boulonnais for one of my classes at The Ohio State University. I am looking for contact information for a breeder of this horse. Can anyone help me out?
The Boulonnais is classed as an ancient breed so you couldn't start from scratch and breed something similar that could be then considered as a purebred
Its unusual for a draft because they are usually all 'cold blood' but this horse has some 'hot blood' in it from way back when what was possibly a now extinct breed called the Forest Horse which would have been a stocky cobby type was bred with Arabians or some other oriental breed to get more refinement and spirit but they were quite small
The height came later on from cross breeding with the Mecklenburg and Andalusians
They are categorized as a rare breed yet still bred for the meat trade
I have a month old colt that is 1/4 Boulonnais. It's difficult finding much information at all on the breed here in the US and aside from the sire of my colt, I haven't seen anything on the market and he is only 1/2 Boulonnais 1/2 Percheron. I bought my mare already in foal.
Hi, i just ran into this page by accident. I have a 5 year old boulonnais stallion. He is imported from France July 9, 2015. I'm replying to your old post because i to love the breed. Your interest in the boulonnais is good. You don't hear much about the breed anywhere.
I don't know how much information you have gotten over the years. But after traveling to France and meeting the breeders of my fine horse i do have current information.i don't know if you could have a quarter boulonnaisor a half. No American has walked on Boulonnais breeding grounds since WW 2. Those were soldiers not buyers. The breeders said they have not seen any American or broker for them. Nor have they sold any boulonnais that went to America.
There has been no boulonnais importation to America since before WW 1. There's no information of the boulonnais horses after 1901. The percheron breeders separated from the boulonnais. That's where the trail of the American boulonnais horse ends.
Also the person that says i have boulonnais for ten years please contact me. My story of the noulonnais coming back to America is at North American Boulonnais Association face book page. I hope to here from you.
A facebook page is North American Boulonnais Association. The story of bringing the Boulonnais horse back to America.
